  1. Cocorico is a French bakery and café where the owner is actually from France, which saves everyone the usual accent anxiety. Croissants and baguettes share space with a little market of quiches, pasta, and local goods, plus a goat cheese sandwich that Nashville Scene once crowned Best Vegetarian Sandwich. Framed photos of Toulouse and mosaic tile set the scene for a counter-service lunch, with a muffin-sized chocolate cake as the closer.

  2. The Cafe at Thistle Farms is a daytime counter-service cafe on Charlotte Pike, run by a nonprofit that employs women survivors of trafficking, addiction, and prostitution, so the sandwich arrives with a mission statement attached. A teacup chandelier hangs overhead, and the menu leans toward BLTs, breakfast bowls, and a case of cakes. Nashville Scene named it Best Cafe in its 2023 Best of Nashville, if that helps you decide on lunch.

  3. The Yorkshire Deli is a British tea room in Kingston Springs, about half an hour from downtown Nashville, and it commits to the woodland-fairy bit with seasonal blooms everywhere you look. You email ahead to book one of four tea experiences, which come with scones, clotted cream, and finger sandwiches. There's a Mad Hatter tea party for kids, dress-up props included, and Nashville Scene named it a Best Worth-the-Drive Treat.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
