  2. The whole room is named after a dog, which tells you something about the energy here. Mabel's is an upscale-casual seafood spot in North Park where the menu leans into California-meets-Iberia, raw oysters and crudos on one end, swordfish schnitzel with salsa verde and tonnato on the other. Natural wines and gin cocktails fill the gaps. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and Esquire called it one of the best new restaurants in America.

  3. Rank 2. Tribute Pizza

    Neo-Neapolitan Pizzeria

The building was a post office once, and the open kitchen has replaced the sorting floor with a wood-fired oven at its center. Tribute is a neo-Neapolitan pizza shop that also does grandma-style and New York slices, with pies named as nods to figures from the American pizza world. The bar leans heavily into tequila and whiskey, and the staff can walk you through all of it without making you feel slow for asking.

  5. A floor-to-ceiling photo of Sophia Loren watches over the dining room at this Neapolitan pizza and pasta spot in North Park, where the concrete-and-exposed-pipe look is exactly as cool as the neighborhood demands. The kitchen leans traditional Southern Italian underneath all that industrial chic, turning out wood-fired pies and handmade pastas with real conviction. Dinner gets lively; lunch is for people who prefer to think.

  6. The awards

  7. Carne and Hueso is a sit-down Mexican restaurant in North Park, run by two sisters cooking Indigenous dishes from Puebla, Jalisco, and Oaxaca. The moles come in blanco, negro, and rojo, and the birria follows a recipe from their grandfather's place in Guadalajara. Weekend brunch hands the first dozen tables free pan de muerto, which is a real incentive to be the person who arrives early. The bar leans on Mexican spirits and house syrups.

  8. Rank 7. One of Us

    Sports Gastropub

One of Us is a sports gastropub in North Park where the screens default to women's games, with soccer, basketball, hockey, and softball running daily and the men's games allowed in for the big occasions. The kitchen leans on a coal-fired oven for pizza and smoked wings, and the cocktails are named for penalties and goals, so ordering a Yellow Card is a bit you'll commit to. Eater listed it among San Diego's best new restaurants in October 2026.

  9. This is a loud French bistro in North Park that feels like it arrived on a flatbed from the Strip, minus the nightclub and the bottle-service tax. The steak is the move, and the pickle martini is a sentence you'll say out loud to your server. Bring friends who don't mind shouting across the table, then ask about the speakeasy upstairs, where a cognac and cold brew is the polite way to end the night.

  10. Rank 9. Caffè Calabria

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

  11. Rank 9. Saigon Coffee

    Vietnamese Coffee Shop

  12. Rank 14. LEILA

    Middle Eastern

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
