    A former gas station on a Georgian street reinvented as fifty-one rooms of Italian modernism, The Halkin opened in 1991 as London's first luxury boutique hotel and still carries itself with the reserve of a private residence. Christina Ong's design philosophy—restraint, wellness, invisible service—remains the architecture of the place.
