A hand-carved door in the wall of AlUla's ancient mud-brick quarter opens into a boutique hotel assembled from a maze of centuries-old houses, carefully restored rather than smoothed away. Reed ceilings, candlelit lanterns, and a record player with a vinyl collection in each of the 30 rooms set a mood that has nothing to prove. A rooftop pool and yoga terrace round things out, and the hotel runs without air conditioning, which the thick walls handle surprisingly well from October through May.
