    Down a narrow lane in the Ribble Valley, this stone village pub runs an open fire and antique furnishings that make the interior feel like it was assembled over centuries rather than decorated. The kitchen leans Modern British, pulling from local producers for dishes that have a bit of ambition about them. Four seats at the Chef's Bench put you in the middle of the kitchen, which is either a thrill or a lot of eye contact, depending on your disposition.
