A boutique hotel inside the Hongcun scenic area, steps from the south gate, with rooms and a rooftop terrace looking straight out over Nanhu lake. Inside, exposed timber beams and poured concrete sit in deliberate contrast to the Ming and Qing dynasty whitewashed Hui-style houses just beyond the door. The village outside is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so the views carry some weight. A calm, design-minded base for exploring one of southern Anhui's great old villages.
