    A former waystation for pilgrims trudging toward Santiago de Compostela, this family-run hotel in a Basque Country village has been welcoming guests in a rather less devout capacity for generations. Original ceiling beams and warm interiors give the rooms a lived-in weight that newer properties spend a fortune trying to fake. Dinner runs from hearty breakfasts to a gastronomic Basque menu under old plane trees on the terrace. Sare's museum dedicated entirely to gâteau Basque is nearby, which tells you everything about the pace here.
