Izumo Hotel The Cliff

Eight rooms cut directly into a cliffside on the Shimane coast, each with its own recessed balcony aimed straight at the open sea. This small hotel pairs raw concrete walls with careful woodwork in a way that reads less like a design exercise and more like a bunker someone made beautiful. The restaurant sits on the terrace above, with a wider coastal panorama. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.
