A fire took the original inn in 2018, and the replacement was handed to architect Tetsuo Kobori, which tells you something about the ambition here. Kofuyuden Beniya is a contemporary ryokan in Awara's hot-spring district, designed so the building's orientation catches the breeze for natural cooling. The same thermal waters feed the communal baths, the in-room tubs, and even the floors beneath your feet. Kaiseki dinner comes with the stay, and the Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.
