LUME Boutique Hotel, Autograph Collection

A row of ornate century-old villas in Frankfurt's financial district, joined together and reimagined as a 133-room boutique hotel, the LUME plays it neither period nor purely contemporary, landing instead on a Fifties modernism filtered through a present-day eye. Designer rooms come with Treca Paris mattresses and Leysieffer coffee machines even at the entry level. The in-house restaurant is a sibling of Berlin's Grill Royal, which tells you something about the hotel's general level of ambition.
