Mesen is a wood-fire restaurant in leafy Rhiwbina, named for the Welsh word for acorn, with no gas anywhere in the kitchen, so everything gets cooked over flame and smoke. The blackboard menu changes weekly and leans on Welsh produce. Weekends fill with date nights and tables of friends arm-wrestling over tomahawks, and a dive bar out back stays loose enough to pour a WKD spritz.
