Mingary Castle
Modern British
A restored 13th-century castle at the end of miles of single-track road on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, about as far west as mainland Britain goes. The restaurant inside runs a set menu built on local produce, venison from the estate among them, cooking that's hearty and rooted rather than fussy. The kind of place where the journey and the setting do half the work, and the kitchen is wise enough not to compete with either.
