Palacio de Samaniego

A nine-room estate hotel inside a centuries-old palace in Spain's Rioja Alavesa wine country, each room named for a grape varietal and filled with objects collected from across the globe. Ariane de Rothschild runs the place, which means the Basque fine-dining restaurant and the sustainability angle coexist without irony. The family winery, Macán, is nearby for obvious reasons, and horseback riding or hot-air balloon rides keep the weekends from feeling purely vinous.
