The camp takes its name from the sausage tree, whose pendulous two-foot fruits hang around the tents like a botanical joke. Five luxury safari tents face a dry riverbed and the Drakensberg beyond, inside a private reserve with an open boundary onto Kruger. The owner leads game drives across 3,500 hectares while his partner runs the kitchen and designed the interiors, which makes this feel less like a lodge and more like staying with people who actually live here.
