    Drinks and snacks in the drawing room first, then through to the old music room for dinner: that's how a Michelin-starred evening at this grand 17th-century house tends to unfold. The cooking is Modern British, formal in setting but rooted in the chef's childhood and the estate around it. The wine pairings are notably inventive, and the service has the warmth that stops formal from tipping into stiff.
