    A row of Victorian red-brick townhouses on the quietly moneyed edge of Knightsbridge and Chelsea, the Franklin is a boutique hotel where Anouska Hempel's interiors run the show: moody, monochrome, and oddly sexy in a way that's hard to explain to your travel companion. Italian ownership lends a bit of warmth to the whole very-English setup. Frette linens and Penhaligon products handle the comforts, and the neighborhood handles the rest.
