A former Edwardian railway headquarters, all marble floors and wrought-iron staircases, that became York's grandest hotel without losing much of the original bones. Rooms in the older wing have coffered walls and writing desks; the newer annex runs brighter and more contemporary. The vaulted spa was once equipment storage, which feels like an upgrade for everyone involved. The 1906 Bar and a proper afternoon tea round things out nicely.
