A Lancashire village pub that kept its bar stools and lost its pub menu. Chef Joe McLeod took over The Spread Eagle and now runs an à la carte alongside a monthly tasting menu, both leaning toward generous, boldly flavoured plates that have little to do with what the previous landlord was serving. The room feels like a local because it still is one, which makes the cooking land as a genuine surprise. The team are the kind of warm that you remember on the drive home.
