Tongxiang Yuanshe Puyuan Hotel

Ancient camphor trees and a lotus pond frame this boutique hotel on the edge of Puyuan Town, a Jiangnan water town that somehow also hosts China's biggest knitwear market and its own fashion week. The interiors take their cue from a Song Dynasty painting of literati garden gatherings, translated into linen textures, ivory tones, and glass walls that open onto the rice paddies. The name means "original dwelling," which is doing a lot of work, but the setting earns it.
