Virginia creeper and rose trees climb the red brick facade of this Victorian mansion hotel set in Hampshire, about fifty miles from London. Oak paneling, gilded ceilings, and period paintings make the interior feel like a country house that never quite became a hotel, which is rather the point. The gardens run to 250,000 trees and shrubs, a water garden with ducks, and a walk through redwoods beside a lake.
