Hunter S. Thompson used to drink here, and the walls still look like it. Woody Creek Tavern is a comfort food bar and restaurant about twenty minutes outside Aspen, its walls plastered with Polaroids, magazine covers, and vintage kitsch that have outlasted at least one leopard-print carpet. The menu runs burgers, wings, nachos, and enchiladas, and the spicy margarita is the house original for a reason. The drive out of town is the price of admission.
