The Best Hotels Near Stern's Restaurant, by the Record

  1. Half-timbered facade, red gabled roof, a still pond throwing the whole picture back at you: this forest hotel sits in a clearing near Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, and you won't stumble onto it by accident. Rooms have parquet floors, antiques, and private balconies; suites add fireplaces and timber beams. Breakfast runs on local honey, eggs, and goat cheese. The sauna house and natural swimming pond mean there's no particular reason to leave.

  2. Three half-timbered buildings from the 1500s, one of which was a brewery, another a wine shop, share a wall with Frankenberg's ten-towered medieval town hall and have been stitched together into a single luxury hotel. Rooms run from timber-ceilinged suites to four-poster affairs with fireplaces to near-apartment setups with full kitchens. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key. Breakfast and a private lounge with a fireplace are kept for guests only.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
