The 100 Best Places to Drink and Stay in Baltimore

The best places to drink and stay in Baltimore, according to the experts: AAA, Forbes Travel Guide, and The 50 have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore comes out on top.

More Less

Pendry Baltimore and The Ivy Hotel hold the next two places. AAA shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Baltimore Magazine next.

  1. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the guest rooms frame Inner Harbor views that do most of the decorating for you. This Forbes Four Star hotel is a waterfront glass tower with a lobby art collection serious enough to slow you down before check-in. The fourth floor holds a 10,000-square-foot spa and the city's only waterfront infinity pool, which is the kind of amenity that makes it hard to remember there's a city outside.

  2. The hotel lives inside a grand old pier building in Fell's Point, Baltimore's densest stretch of bars and restaurants, with the harbor right outside and a rooftop pool that feels improbably right. Guest rooms lean design-forward, there's a steakhouse on site, and the whole place hums with the neighborhood's energy rather than hiding from it. One Michelin Key for those keeping score.

  3. Gas fireplaces, four-poster beds, and heated limestone floors set the register at this boutique hotel tucked into a red-brick Mount Vernon mansion. One of the few Black-owned boutique hotels in the country, it holds a Michelin two-key distinction. A courtyard handles breakfast and afternoon tea; the on-site restaurant, Magdalena, draws its own following. The spa is small and the whole operation is quiet, which is rather the point.

  7. The Walters Art Museum is around the corner and the Peabody Institute just beyond, so the boutique hotel that landed in Mount Vernon clearly knew its audience. Joie de Vivre filled Hotel Revival with enough art and design that the rooms themselves feel curated rather than decorated. Mount Vernon is one of Baltimore's oldest and most quietly creative neighborhoods, and the hotel leans into that identity without making you feel like you wandered into a gallery opening.

  8. Original Tiffany fixtures and marble staircases lined with balustrades set the tone at this Kimpton hotel in a restored Beaux Arts building that used to be a railroad headquarters. The Gilded Age bones are everywhere, from statuary over the entrance arch to the preserved period detail inside. A Michelin Selected Hotel, it sits at the edge of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, which means the views are there if the history isn't enough.

  9. Arched windows framing the Inner Harbor put the waterfront front and center at this full-service hotel on Baltimore's Light Street. Dark wood and gold tones run through the rooms, and the upper suites lean into the view. An indoor lap pool, whirlpool, sauna, and rooftop deck give it a self-contained feel that's unusual at the price. Camden Yards and the National Aquarium are both an easy walk, and crab cakes are a few minutes on foot at Harborplace.

  77. A hotel where the casino floor hums around the clock and the day spa exists, heroically, just down the hall. Live! is a AAA Four Diamond property near BWI and Arundel Mills, and the draw is the sheer volume of things happening under one roof: thousands of slots, live table games, a sportsbook, and headline concerts. Rooms run to pillow-top mattresses and plush robes, for when you need to remember you're at a hotel.

  83. The Graduate brand has a formula: find a college town with a forgettable hotel scene and replace it with something that actually knows where it is. In Annapolis, home to the Naval Academy and St. John's College, that means a colorful, niche-focused hotel that wears its setting without apology. The Michelin Guide has it in their Selected Hotels list, which tracks.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
