A pizza spot on Mt. Ikomayama with a view over the city and a crust that owes its soft, fluffy character to local Ikoma spring water. The chef trained in Italy and then quietly went his own way, cutting back on salt and working with vegetables from nearby farms. The result is something Naples wouldn't recognize and probably couldn't reproduce. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand. It closes for the entirety of February.

Tucked between temples in Sakyo Ward, this Neapolitan pizza spot is run by a chef who trained in Naples and sources his ingredients strictly from Campania. The pies run larger than the Japanese norm, soft and light in the way that only a wood-fired dough done right can manage. The room is small and familiar, the staff attentive, and an Italian beer alongside is not a bad idea. It ranked 36th in 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific.
