The Best Pizza Near Santo, by the Record

  1. Rank 1. Marco’s Coal Fired

    Neapolitan Pizza

A coal-fired Neapolitan pizza shop a short walk from Coors Field, Marco's holds the only certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Colorado, which is basically a notarized letter from Naples saying the pies are correct. The crust is blistered and chewy in the right proportions. Substitutions on the Neapolitan pies are not allowed, which will sort the room into people who appreciate that and people who ask anyway.

  2. Rank 2. Cart-Driver

    Neapolitan Pizza

  3. Cheesesteaks and pizza from a shop that takes both more seriously than most fine-dining kitchens take their tasting menus. Little Arthur's started as a pop-up and landed in a sunny little beer bar on Seventh Avenue, where the sourcing is meticulous and the portions are generous enough to make the prices feel fair. Mozzarella sticks and loaded fries round out a menu that reads casual but cooks deliberate.

  4. Rank 4. Happy Camper Pizza

    Pizza Cocktail Bar

Slice shop meets cocktail bar on a busy North Denver corner, loud enough that whatever conversation you're having will stay between you and the ceiling. Happy Camper runs casual and crowded, the kind of place where the noise does you a favor. The menu leans big, sloppy pizza and stiff drinks, and the room fills fast most nights, which suits the regulars just fine.

  5. Rank 5. Dough Counter

    Sicilian/NY-Style Pizza

  6. Rank 6. The Greenwich

    Italian Pizza

  7. Rank 7. White Pie

    Wood-fired Pizza

Wood-fired pizza shop in Denver's LoHi neighborhood, where the charred, garlicky pies lean into their New Haven roots without being precious about it. The menu runs white and red, and a frozen Negroni is always on offer, because of course it is. The team also runs a Mexican spot around the corner, and that same willingness to ignore what a dish is "supposed" to be carries over here. Casual, counter-order energy with pizzas that tend toward crisp, smoky, and just cheesy enough.

  8. Rank 8. Atomic Cowboy & Fat Sully's

    New York-style Pizza Cocktail Bar

A floppy, grease-translucent New York-style slice shares menu space with a biscuit sandwich called the Franklin, which is exactly as chaotic as it sounds. Atomic Cowboy and Fat Sully's is a cocktail bar and pizzeria on East Colfax that has quietly annexed breakfast and turned the whole operation into a cheerful monument to comfort food. The crowd arrives thirsty and leaves very full, which seems to be the plan.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
