The Best Seafood Near Timbrell's Yard, by the Record

  1. The name is a souvenir from a previous life in St Ives, which tells you most of what you need to know about the menu. This stripped-back seafood spot on Chandos Road anchors itself around oysters, then fans out into things like red mullet with shellfish sauce and a shelf of high-end tinned fish that makes a strong case for itself. Redland's little cluster of good eating surrounds it, and the pricing won't require a sit-down with your accountant.

  2. The teak-furnished Yacht Lounge upstairs is a nice red herring: the name says pub, the room says something else entirely. This is a polished seafood restaurant a short walk from the quayside in Poole, with a refined nautical trim that stops well short of kitsch. The kitchen leans hard into the local catch, and the wine list pulls in nearby producers chosen to go alongside it rather than upstage it.

  3. A former butcher's shop in the Cotswolds that never quite lost its bones, now a relaxed seafood-forward restaurant where the charcoal grill does serious work alongside Cornish scallops and Dover sole. The family has run the room for decades, and it shows: the front of house is warm without being cloying, the menu moves between land and sea without losing focus, and Stow-on-the-Wold is a better town for having it.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. It runs on the scored places nearby: more good stuff within reach, higher score. If it looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
