Red Rocks is an outdoor concert venue carved out of ancient sandstone formations, and it genuinely looks like someone built a stage on Mars. The acoustics are ridiculous, the views over Denver are better than the opener, and the crowd runs from die-hard fans in band tees to first-timers who spent ten minutes Googling "what to wear hiking." Even without a show, it's worth the drive up from the city.

Tempe's lakeside arts center punches well above its weight for a suburb, with a 600-seat wood-clad main theater, an intimate black box space, and an outdoor amphitheater all sitting right on Town Lake. Local companies like the Tempe Symphony and Childsplay call it home, so the crowd skews neighborhood regulars and proud parents, with the occasional date night thrown in. Check the calendar and you'll usually find something worth the drive.
