The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Si Lom & around

  1. Thousands of glass tubes packed with Thai herbs and spices hang overhead in slow curves, shifting color by season, which is also exactly what the kitchen is doing. Chef Ton Tassanakajohn, who staged at Jean-Georges and Eleven Madison Park before coming home, runs a contemporary Thai tasting menu here that holds a Michelin star and a spot on The World's 50 Best. The room is quiet, the pacing is unhurried, and the ingredients tend to be things you won't find anywhere else.

  2. A kappo-style chef's table tucked off a quiet soi near Silom, where Chef Prin Polsuk cooks Thai food as archaeology, pulling from the cuisine of the country's micro-communities in a room small enough that you can hear every sizzle. Counter seats face the action; a few tables don't. His wife runs the floor with the ease of someone who has done this a thousand times. The place holds a Michelin star.

  3. Rank 3. Bar Sathorn

    Cocktail Bar

The cocktail menu at this colonial mansion bar traces the building's life through each drink, from Chinese merchant to Soviet Embassy to Bangkok landmark. It's a cocktail bar inside the W Bangkok with the bones to justify the concept. A Bloody Maria built around pad krapao ingredients arrives with a frozen tomato standing in for ice. A page of Louis XIII pours starts at 600 a glass, which is one way to mark a Tuesday. Asia's 50 Best Bars lands it at number 48.

  4. Rank 4. Vesper

    Cocktail Bar

The name comes from Bond's martini order, which sets the tone pretty well for this cocktail bar on Convent Road. The menu is organized on a flavor map, running from sweet to dry and refreshing to spirituous, so choosing a drink becomes a conversation rather than a guess. It's chic without making you feel like you're on trial, and the drinks are serious. Asia's 50 Best Bars has it at number 29.

  10. Rank 8. Smalls

    French Cocktail Bar

Absinthe flows freely at this dimly lit, three-floor cocktail bar tucked into a Sathon alley, where exposed brick and contemporary art set a mood somewhere between Paris and a jazz club you weren't supposed to find. There's a rooftop bar for when the nooks and crannies feel too cosy, live jazz on rotation, and signature cocktails alongside French bistro bites. It earned a spot on The 50 Discovery list, which tracks where the scene is heading.

  15. Bamboo screens and candlelight on the terrace, cocktails poured until 1am, and a menu that hopscotches the globe without apology. Eat Me is a relaxed late-night restaurant in Si Lom where the kitchen leans on Thai ingredients but feels no obligation to cook Thai food. The chef has cooked under Marcus Samuelsson and Daniel Boulud, which explains the daring combinations, even if the mood stays firmly unhurried.

  21. Rank 12. Lahnyai

    Contemporary Thai

Velvet walls and Jacquard-upholstered chairs set the mood at this intimate fine-dining room in Sathon, where the kitchen works through royal Thai recipes with a contemporary hand. The team narrates the courtly history behind each dish as it arrives, which sounds like homework but lands closer to a good dinner-party story. The saang wa pu, an herbal crab salad, is worth hoping for when it appears on the menu.

  24. Rank 12. Saawaan

    Contemporary Thai

A tasting menu restaurant on a quiet Sathon soi where the whole point is Thai cooking technique, not European ambition. The eleven courses move through fermentation, charcoal, and steaming as organizing ideas rather than garnishes, so preserved krill and grilled slipper lobster arrive tasting like arguments for a cuisine that never needed updating. The pastry work alone draws a following among people who track these things.

  26. Rank 12. Scarlett

    Steakhouse

The grill is the centerpiece of the open kitchen on the 37th floor of the Pullman, which tells you exactly where to focus. Scarlett is a rooftop restaurant with a broad European menu, city views, cocktails, and a cheese counter for good measure, but the fire-cooked meats and seafood are the reason people come. Australian steaks and whatever fish the kitchen is running that night keep things simple and worth the elevator ride up.

  29. A marble counter with twelve seats faces the kitchen through a glass wall, so the eight-course tasting menu doubles as a live performance from a team that moves with the quiet discipline of a Swiss watch factory. The cooking is European contemporary, the ingredients are serious, and the format is pure theatre without any of the forced drama. Book well ahead; the house only fits a dozen people.

  31. Rank 32. Revolucion Cocktail

    Cuban Tiki Bar

Bartenders here breathe fire, literally spin bottles, and set the bar itself alight, so yes, it's that kind of night. This Cuban-tiki cocktail bar on Silom pulls both locals and visitors deep into afterparty territory, with a pandan coconut daiquiri and a DJ doing most of the convincing. A buy-one-get-one deal runs before nine, and the Mexican food stall out front, same owner, is hard to walk past without ordering something.

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
