The Best Places in Central Singapore

  1. White-gloved service and a dedicated cheese cart signal exactly what kind of evening you're in for at this French fine dining institution tucked into Shaw Centre. Chef Sébastien Lepinoy, who spent nearly two decades with Joël Robuchon before landing here, runs a kitchen that holds three Michelin stars, a Forbes Five Star, and a spot on Asia's 50 Best list. The room is formal but never stiff, the kind of place where the truffle server knows more about truffles than you ever will.

  2. Rank 2. Iggy's

    European

A dessert counter with a global reputation sits at the back of this intimate 36-seat fine-dining room on Orchard Road, where contemporary French cooking picks up quiet Asian inflections along the way. The wine cellar runs to tens of thousands of bottles, which makes sense once you know the culinary director is also a sommelier. Iggy's holds a Michelin star and a Forbes Four Star, and has been around long enough to count as a genuine Singapore institution.

  3. A rotating collection of over 1,500 Asian artworks lines the guest rooms and public spaces, giving this luxury hotel the quiet atmosphere of a well-curated residence rather than a grand lobby show. It sits just off Orchard Road, Singapore's retail main drag, and delivers the full Four Seasons program: two outdoor pools, tennis courts, and a gym serious enough that guests actually use it.

  8. The twelve cascading floors wrap around a skylit atrium that John Portman designed decades ago, and the bones still show. This Forbes Four Star hotel sits steps from the Botanic Gardens, and the floor-to-ceiling windows mean the greenery reads almost as interior decoration. Local artists fill the walls, the pool terrace is genuinely lush, and 445 rooms means it never feels like an intimate hideaway, which is fine, because it was never pretending to be one.

  9. A bronze-and-glass slatted facade on a quiet, cobblestoned side street announces this luxury hotel about ten minutes' walk from the Orchard Road shopping crush. Ian Schrager and Marriott's EDITION brand lands in Southeast Asia with the minimalist-cool interiors Schrager built his reputation on, softened here by bursts of color and greenery that keep the lobby from feeling like a furniture catalog.

  10. The daily Champagne Sabering ritual sets the tone for this Forbes Four Star luxury hotel just above Orchard Road. Rooms lean Art Deco with a botanical twist following a renovation, and the bathrooms come with standalone wood tubs and jets on both sides of the shower. Butler service handles everything from shoe-shining to a tour of the hotel's art collection, which is the kind of detail that makes packing feel like someone else's problem.

  11. The tower itself looks like a plant decided to become a building: terraces and sky gardens are threaded into the structure on the old site of a garden mansion just off Orchard Road. This 142-room hotel leans into that green premise throughout, from Peranakan-inspired art and high-ceilinged rooms with private balconies to a wellness floor with yoga pavilions. The rooftop infinity pool has a partially transparent base, which is either thrilling or a reason to stay on dry land.

  13. Rank 13. The Other Room

    Cocktail Bar

Tucked behind a curtain in the Marriott Tang Plaza lobby, this Prohibition-themed cocktail bar signs its tiny round tables with the names of famous rum runners, which is either charming or a history lesson depending on your mood. House-finished spirits aged in small barrels are the thing the bar is built around. Sit in a banquette if you like a challenge, or perch at the bar where someone actually knows what they're doing.

  15. Rank 14. One Ninety

    Cocktail Bar

Sunlight pours through floor-to-ceiling windows at this cocktail bar inside the Four Seasons, where the botanical theme isn't just decor, it runs through the menu. Drinks pull from fresh market produce with plant-based and wellness-leaning options alongside the classics, and the Kitchen Garden cocktail mixes aquavit with tomato, mushroom, and celery in a way that sounds like a salad but drinks like a dare.

  22. Rank 22. Astor Bar

    Cocktail Bar

The Bloody Mary menu runs to several variations here, which tells you something about what kind of bar this is. Tucked into the ground floor of the St. Regis, the Astor Bar does luxury hotel drinking in the old colonial register: red leather, dark wood, art deco brasswork, and the general air of a gentlemen's club that never quite closed. The house Chili Padi Mary arrives spiced with lemongrass, ginger, and chilli.

  23. Wagyu cooked tableside on a small grill, with the marbling doing most of the talking. This is a steakhouse in Palais Renaissance that works with A3 to A5 Japanese Wagyu and treats sourcing as the whole point, not a bullet point on the menu. The room is calm and spare, the service knows when to explain and when to disappear, and the sake pairings are chosen to flatter the beef rather than compete with it. Ranked among the World's Best Steak Restaurants.

  24. Rank 24. Horse's Mouth

    Japanese Cocktail Bar

The entrance is a black curtain behind Uma Uma Ramen, and the stairs drop you into a dimly lit cocktail bar that makes Orchard Road feel like another country. The Japanese minimalist design carries through to the bar snacks, where stingray fins make an appearance alongside whatever's in your glass. People call it a speakeasy, though there's no password and no velvet rope theatre, just a curtain between you and the noodles.

  25. Rank 25. Mezza 9

    Cocktail Bar

A long bar anchors one end, burgundy club chairs and reading lamps fill the middle, and a glassed-off smoking room with cigars and international newspapers occupies the other, which tells you most of what you need to know about this hotel cocktail bar tucked behind the restaurant on the Grand Hyatt's mezzanine. The 50 fruit martinis on the menu are less alarming than they sound; order around them and the bar does its job quietly and well.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
