The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Enge & around

  1. The green-tiled open kitchen runs the length of the room like a stage, and on a clear day the windows give you Lake Zurich as a backdrop. This is an all-day Italian-leaning restaurant inside a very sleek hotel, the kind that calls itself a "brasserie de luxe" without irony. The chef trained with Enrico Bartolini and Alain Ducasse, and the cooking shows it, blending Italian ingredients with local Swiss ones and the odd Eastern note. One Michelin star.

  2. The walls are hung with original Miró, Chagall, and Bonnard, and nobody here treats that as unusual. This old-school Zurich brasserie has been an institution on Bellevueplatz forever, drawing the kind of regulars who settle into the leather banquettes like they own them. Classic Swiss and European cooking, much of it finished tableside, anchors the menu. The Chagall Room offers a quieter evening; the main brasserie is the livelier bet.

  3. You walk in, pick your cut from the counter at the door, and that transaction is the whole philosophy of the place. It's a steakhouse and butcher shop combined, anchored by Swiss LUMA beef alongside Wagyu and USDA Prime, most of it dry-aged, all of it cooked with the conviction that fire and salt are enough. The room is warm wood and soft light, cosy without being precious. Ranked 64th on the World's Best Steak Restaurants list.

  4. Rank 4. AURA

  5. The grand brasserie inside the Baur au Lac hotel, where Zürcher Geschnetzeltes and Chateaubriand for two share a menu with caviar and pasta, all of it sourced with the seriousness the room demands. The wine list gets its own kind of curation. Service is polished without being stiff, and the location near Lake Zurich means the setting outside matches the one within. Dress accordingly; this is not a jeans situation.

  7. Rank 4. Marguita

    Mediterranean

The mosaic floor and Art Deco chandelier compete for attention, but the garden view usually wins. Marguita is a hotel restaurant inside the Grand Hotel Baur au Lac, a rotunda dressed in the kind of glamour that makes you sit up straighter. The Mediterranean menu leans on French and Italian classics with a modern nudge, and the lobster dishes get their own devoted section. Service runs formal and attentive, exactly as the room demands.

  8. Rank 4. parkhuus

    Modern Steakhouse

The glassed-in wine library alone is worth pausing over, stocked with international labels alongside natural and organic bottles. This is the Park Hyatt's main dining room, all soaring ceilings, open kitchen, and the kind of lighting that makes everyone look like they closed a deal. The menu runs contemporary European, set or à la carte, with the grill doing heavy lifting: the tomahawk and the Chateaubriand for two draw the suits back reliably.

  9. Rank 9. Bar am Wasser

    Modern Cocktail Bar

The two-storey wall of backlit bottles is the first thing you see, and it sets the tone for this all-day bar on the edge of Lake Zurich. Coffee in the morning, charcuterie and steak tartare whenever, but the draw is the multi-course cocktail menu, which treats a round of drinks the way a kitchen treats a tasting menu. Light, airy, and a little too put-together to feel accidental.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
