The best vegan in Phoenix, according to the experts: Foodist Awards, Phoenix New Times, and Phoenix Magazine have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co comes out on top.

More Less

Tacos Veganos and Arizona Wilderness DTPHX hold the next two places. Foodist Awards shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Phoenix New Times next.

  1. The outdoor bar lives inside a repurposed shipping container, which tells you something about this brewpub's sensibility. Arizona Wilderness pours a rotating slate of seasonal ales alongside house classics, and the kitchen keeps pace with oversized burgers, an Arizonan hot fried chicken sandwich, and duck fat fries that have developed their own following. The vegan options are less afterthought than actual draw. Bench seating, a beer garden, and desert weather do the rest.

  2. Rank 2. Tacos Veganos

    Vegan Mexican

Jackfruit quesabirria tacos with plant-based mozzarella are the headline at this vegan Mexican taco shop in the Arcadia neighborhood, a casual counter-order spot where the menu reads like any solid taqueria, right down to the bucket of Modelos. Burritos come stuffed with rice, beans, fries, and your pick of plant-based protein, which is either very 2010s or exactly what you wanted. The kind of place carnivores get dragged to and then quietly admit was fine.

  6. Rank 7. Nami

    Vegan Ice Cream Shop

A renovated house on North 7th Street is now a vegan ice cream, coffee, and pastry shop where the Tsoynami, a housemade soy-based ice cream in over 20 Blizzard-style flavors, is the thing people come back for. The affogato, ice cream and chocolate syrup drowned in espresso, is a strong supporting argument. Cupcakes, cookies, and rotating daily specials round out the case for plants as dessert.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
