  1. Rank 1. F&F Pizzeria - Mt. Lebo

    New York Pizzeria

A New York style slice shop that somehow landed in Mt. Lebanon and decided to stay, F&F sells by the slice or the whole pie, with options running from a straight pepperoni to cacio e pepe or a clam pie if you're feeling confident. The open dining room spills onto a patio when the weather cooperates. Vodka rigatoni is on the menu too, for anyone who came for pizza and stayed for pasta.

  2. Rank 1. Mercurio’s

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The gelato case near the door makes the priorities clear before you've even found a table. Mercurio's is a Neapolitan-style pizza and gelato spot in Shadyside, where long-fermented dough gets a soft, blistered crust and the toppings run from a straightforward Margherita to speck with gorgonzola. The room is casual and easy, the kind of place that fills up with neighbors who aren't trying to make an occasion of it.

  3. Rank 1. Shady Grove

  4. Rank 4. Lorelei

    Pizzeria

A beer hall in East Liberty built around 14-inch, wood-fired Neapolitan pies that were designed to be passed around a long communal table. The cacio e pepe pizza and the spicy pepperoni with house hot honey are regulars on the menu; weekly specials rotate through whatever's local and seasonal. Kölsch, Italian pilsners, and a Franconian pale smoke lager share the drinks list with wine and amaro flights, which should tell you something about the crowd's ambitions.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
