A converted Benedictine monastery on the shore of Lac d'Annecy, which Cézanne apparently found compelling enough to visit in person. The hotel moves at a monastic pace by design: afternoons on the lime-shaded terrace, classical concerts in the gallery, gardens supplying the kitchen. Antique oak, exposed timbers, and the Prior's Room with its 1681 parquet floors suggest the decorators consulted no one after Louis XIV.
