    A former hospital complex turned 24-suite resort inside UNESCO-listed Luang Prabang, Amantaka arranges its colonial buildings around private courtyards and a dark-green-tiled lap pool. The spa still occupies the original hydrotherapy rooms, now given over to Lao herbal treatments. Guided almsgiving walks at dawn and silk-making workshops fill the days for guests who came for something quieter than a beach.
