Philippe Starck had free run of an ornate Gran Vía landmark and went full Starck: surrealist canvases, Paris-in-the-twenties nostalgia, and a spa that reads more like a spaceship. The hotel's 57 rooms and suites carry that same controlled theatricality, and the restaurant leans Mediterranean with a Lebanese lean. It's a place that takes its own concept seriously enough to be fun rather than exhausting.
