The trail starts flat along the shoreline and then climbs the cliffs above Saguaro Lake, where the views keep getting better the higher you go. This five-mile out-and-back north of Phoenix is easygoing enough that you can spend most of it looking at the water rather than your feet. A side path partway along drops to the shoreline for a wade, and Burro Cove at the far end opens up to Four Peaks in the distance.
