    The hand-operated elevator that has been ferrying people up this 1926 flatiron building since long before it was a hotel is a reasonable clue about the vibe. A 71-room boutique hotel at Asheville's sharpest corner, it converted former offices into rooms with Bellino linens and mountain views, keeping the bones intact. A wood-fired Italian restaurant, a rooftop bar, and a Prohibition-themed basement bar round out the floors between.
