    The arched windows and yellow-ochre façade give nothing away, but this Forbes Five Star hotel spent its earlier life as a political prison, which is either a great story to tell at dinner or a mild haunting, depending on your outlook. It sits steps from the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, and the rooms are all hand-woven carpets and Murano glass. A small, quietly opulent base for the old city.
