A German count bought an aging Bavarian Alps hotel and turned it into a mountain retreat, which sounds like the opening of a fairy tale, mostly because it is. Gut Steinbach is a resort on a high plateau with an organic farm, alpine chalets around a natural pond, and a spa with mirrored ceilings and a large indoor pool. The main lodge runs to native wood and glass, with rooms that lean into a hunting-lodge aesthetic without going full taxidermy. The Michelin Guide awarded it 2 Keys.
