    Two 18th-century canal townhouses just off the Museumplein, decorated with Barbara Broekman's custom wallpapers and enough contemporary color to stop the place from feeling like a period drama. It's a boutique hotel that splits the difference between old Amsterdam and new, which sounds like a compromise until you're actually staying here. Rain showers in every room, a ground-floor restaurant and honesty bar, and the Rijksmuseum a short walk away.
