    The grand façade faces the Amstel River and has been doing so for what feels like forever, which sets the tone before you've even unpacked. This is a classic luxury hotel, Old World in the most unapologetic sense, all high ceilings and gilded interiors that make you feel like you've stumbled into a canal-house fever dream. Water taxis run from the door, and the Rijksmuseum is a comfortable walk away for when guilt sets in.
