Huguenots founded Franschhoek centuries ago, which explains why this boutique hotel in the heart of the village feels less like South Africa and more like a Provençal courtyard dropped into the Western Cape. Rooms are spacious and dressed in rich colors and hand-painted fabrics, with fireplaces for winter and a pool for the long summers. The restaurant is a sister to Cape Town's La Colombe. The Michelin Guide awards it one Key.
