    Perched on a ridge above Batiquitos Lagoon, this Forbes Four Star resort near San Diego keeps guests busy enough that leaving feels optional. An Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, a 15,000-square-foot spa, six tennis courts, and a croquet lawn cover the bases, with mountain-to-Pacific views doing the rest of the convincing. Fine dining and casual spots are both on-site, so you can calibrate the formality as you go.
