    Murano chandeliers hang over mahogany floors, and the Italian leather furnishings are soft enough that you notice them. This Long Island hotel has been around forever, and a renovation by designer Marcello Pozzi pushed it into something more contemporary without losing the grandeur. Manhattan, JFK, and LaGuardia are all close, which makes it a useful base for more than just the suburbs. The spa sits on the lower level beneath a light-filled atrium.
