A three-floor pub in Maida Vale that somehow does everything without feeling stretched thin: cask ales and cheese toasties downstairs, open-fire grills on the first floor, classic cocktails in a cosy library above that. The team behind The Pelican restored this one with care, and the Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot in the UK's Top 50 Gastropubs suggest the neighbourhood got rather lucky. Traditional British pub food is the backbone, done without irony.
