    Five interconnected canal houses on the Herengracht, floor plans preserved in all their rambling, staircase-heavy glory. The Hoxton is a hotel that cheerfully names its smallest rooms "Shoebox" and means it, though clever layouts and canal views soften the blow considerably. The industrial East London aesthetic, all leather and brass against herringbone parquet, sits surprisingly well in Amsterdam. Lotti's brasserie and a two-level lounge bar keep the lobby worth lingering in.
