A Bodhi tree shades the courtyard of this 31-room boutique hotel in Chiang Mai's Old City, which is about as peaceful an organizing principle as a hotel can have. The Lanna Colonial architecture layers carved wooden facades, ornate moldings with Arabic and Indian inflections, and jade-colored ceramics throughout. Thirteen rooms come with private pools, and the top-floor suite looks out over the national park. The restaurant serves Northern Thai food, and cocktails arrive in hollowed fruit.
