    A mid-century motel on the unfashionable side of the airport, renovated into a pocketbook-friendly boutique hotel well clear of the Gaslamp's stretch Escalades and valet theater. The bones are still gloriously kitschy, and the crowd skews young and loud in the best poolside sense. It's a Michelin Selected Hotel, which feels like a useful reminder that good taste doesn't always require a valet stand.
