    An 18th-century mansion on the edge of Holyrood Park, carefully restored and quietly operating as a boutique hotel under the University of Edinburgh's surprisingly good hospitality arm. Rooms lean contemporary, deep colors and marble bathrooms, Scottish in feeling without a scrap of tartan in sight. Bonnar's handles modern Scottish cooking downstairs, and the Gallery Bar skews swanky. A Michelin Selected Hotel.
