    Twelve suites perched on the southern edge of Royal Botanic Gardens, with parkland out front and South Yarra's cafes and boutiques behind. This boutique hotel skips the grand lobby and the spa pavilion in favour of deeply considered rooms, Le Labo products in the rain showers, and wood-fired cooking at Matilda downstairs, which locals treat as their own neighbourhood restaurant. Small enough that the service actually remembers you.
